UCTV expands to Clifton campus

If you walk down the central Muntz hallway towards the Computer Concourse, then no doubt, when you look into the Media Services Center to your right, you will see a TV in there on UCTV. UCTV went live on November 18, 2005. Since then it has continued to grow, and that growth now can be seen on the Clifton campus.

College Cable Services Inc. provides cable to resident halls and academic buildings as well as apartments owned by UC’s Clifton campus. There is a contract set aside for UC’s channel use. “The contract with College Cable sets aside several channels for use by UC departments, including UCTV, the Library, Public Safety, and Campus Services,” says RWC Media Technology Analyst Neil Sharrow. “Housing & Food Services is in charge of the contract with College Cable, and they helped us get in contact with the company.”

Cable Access facilities like Time Warner Cable and InSight Cable only give UCTV a certain amount of program space. “These offices are set up in numerous sectors of Cincinnati, Cincinnati suburbs and Northern Kentucky, and will make it possible for UCTV to be seen in people’s homes off campus at certain times each week,” says Sharrow. With the new connection to the Clifton Campus, however, Channel 41 will be a full time UCTV operated channel.

In addition, there are no commercials, just bulletin board style items that will loop on the channel, including campus announcements and upcoming events.

“The video bulletin board messages are just a small part of what we’ll be showing on UCTV,” Sharrow said. “Very soon we’ll be broadcasting tapes of campus events, lectures, concerts, work produced by RWC’s Electronic Media students, and other educational and cultural material.”

If you are interested in putting an announcement or event to air on UCTV, send an email to rwcmedia@uc.edu or contact Neil Sharrow or Eric Anderson at 745-5717.
