Over the next couple of weeks, you may find yourself knowing more about poetry than you expect. This is probably because of RWC’s 7th Annual National Poetry Month. The event is an effort to make poetry part of our everyday lives, even if only for a month. In order to do so, those involved have been posting poetry in odd places like phone booths and restrooms. The outdoors have been getting into the mix as well, with poems being written with chalk on the sidewalks between Muntz and SAHB.
Poetry Month has many events planned to bring awareness to this great art form. On April 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival will give a free performance of “Macbeth” in the RWC Theater in Muntz. For more information, please call Debbie Thomayer at 745-5655.
On Thursday, May 11, there will be a free Poetry Caf from 6-8 p.m. in the Writing Center of Muntz. The event is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Featured at the event will be a half-hour reading from poet Benjamin Hughes. Students and faculty will also have an opportunity to read poems or perform short songs during an open mic session.
For more information about Poetry Month, please contact Professor Susan Sipple at 936-7127 or at her office in Muntz 320.
