The Internet: The Best Page in the Universe

If you are anything like me, you have been looking for a website that is so manly and awesome that the mention of its name makes small children cry and grown men question their own masculinity. A site where pirates, beef jerky and violence towards hippies rule. A site so raw, offensive and funny it has actually been banned in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. The web address of this site is maddox.xmission.com. This site is self-proclaimed “The Best Page in the Universe,” and from what I have read, it is pretty close. Although this site is not for the weak of heart, it can be offensive due to the author speaking his mind and not caring who he offends.

At first glance I thought this was just another site made by some teenager in his parent’s basement due to its lack of professionalism and its less than amazing layout, but I was wrong. The creator of this page was the offspring of a pirate, shark, lumber jack, King Kong, and Aron Ralston, encompassing all that is manly, a guy named Maddox.

Maddox is actually a 26-year-old programmer for a telemarketing company, who knows eight different programming languages and is studying for his bachelors degree in Math at the University of Utah. The site is laid out in such a simple manner because it is protesting all of the slick-looking content-less websites on the Internet.

Maddox also is releasing a book titled “The Alphabet of Manliness,” to be released June 6 of this year. This site was started as a text document that he sent to a few people with a list of 50 things that pissed him off. They liked it, so he decided to start a website in 1997.

This site is ranked as the 5,892nd most visited site by Alexa.com, which is amazing because the only promotion of this site is by word of mouth. A notable rarity about this site is that there is no advertising on it, so you don’t have to worry about pop-ups and distracting flashing things asking you to click on them.

This site is easy to navigate. It is basically like one large directory. The articles are separated by year and date, and once you find the article you want to read, you just click it, and the article will pop up for your reading pleasure.

This is a comedy site, making fun of whatever the chosen topic is. This site’s articles are about children’s art, movies, celebrities, how to’s, and anything that makes the author mad.

The site also discusses topics such as feminism, vegetarianism, war, suicide, and the environment, with a twist you will only find at this site.

The only negative thing I found for this site is that the author updates it when he feels like it. It is usually every other week or so, but, because of his upcoming book, the updates have been farther apart.

Some of the more notable articles I have found include “How to piss off credit card companies and get away with it,” “Five things that sucked about Lord of the Rings,” “For every animal you don’t eat, I’m going to eat 3,” and “I’m better than your kids.”

Overall I would say this is one of the funniest sights I have seen, and in fact it is my home page. So if you are looking for a hilarious site that will make you laugh and maybe cry, check it out.
