Letter to the Editor: Walking trail update

To The EditorI was pleased to read the article “Walking trail in the works” in the May 1, 2006, issue of The Activist. Activist staffer Ashlee Lyons is to be commended for taking an interest in the walking trail and for reporting ongoing development of the project.

It is certainly my hope that the article generates additional interest among our students, staff, and faculty. I would like, however, to make a few points of clarification.

The original timeline for trail development was very aggressive and projected construction to begin this summer with a view to completion by the beginning of autumn term. This timeline has been delayed a bit as coordination with the UC architect and the RWC administration has taken longer than anticipated. A completion date during 2006 is still possible, but is now somewhat uncertain.

While RWC community participation in the walking trail is very welcome, no donations (of any kind) should be made to the Building and Grounds Committee. Donation of volunteer effort and trail building material may be sought in the future, but are not requested at this time.

Instead, I invite all students, staff, and faculty who are interested in becoming involved in the walking trail to contact Dr. Frank Wray of the Biology Department. Dr. Wray is spearheading the project and has the best insight on current and future trail development.
