What’s up with the death penalty in the U.S.? Some states are for it and some are against. Few states even resort to the death penalty now. But why is that? If a man kills someone, shouldn’t he be killed too? Or is it not socially correct? Or maybe just too expensive.
Whatever it is, we need to come to a conclusion over this issue. We’ve all heard that it’s more expensive to put people on death row than to sentence them to life in prison. But why?
Well, that’s because as citizens of the U.S., if we can not afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for us. Therefore, the tax dollars we pour out every paycheck are paying for criminals to have a chance of escaping charges?
Not only do we foot the expenses for the lawyer, but we also pay for the fancy scientific way of killing the murderer, once convicted guilty. All these regulations have been but into place because “cruel and unusual punishment” is illegal.
But life isn’t ending so badly for murderers if they get put to sleep just like our sick dogs do when we take them into the vet for their final visit.
So maybe the murderers should rot in prison and think daily about the crime they committed, the life they took, the pain they caused a family. As a country we must come to a common conclusion on the issue of whether or not to exclude the death penalty from our court system.
