First year Nursing students had a chance to work hands on with children at RWC’s neighboring Blue Ash Elementary School for the fifth year. The Nursing students screened about 500 children, from kindergarden through fourth grade, for vision and hearing impairments. After the screenings, the RWC students made necessary referrals for those children needing extra attention. Each student spent around two hours working with the children.
This was the first chance for the Nursing students to get hands on clinical experience. According to Professor Marisue Naber, RWC Nursing Department Chair, the Nursing Department is particularly proud to be able to aide the children with their skills. She called this a great opportunity to reach out to the Blue Ash community.
Professor Janet Goeldner and Professor Jackie Gibbs were extremely instrumental with the scheduling of the screens along with Blue Ash Elementary school nurse Mrs. Susan Moll, Professor Naber said. She also praised the professors for a great job in fitting the screenings into the first year students’ course work.
