As of Wed., Nov. 8, the 2006 midterm elections, for the most part, are in the books. From the most immediate results, Democrats will have control of Congress for the first time in over a decade. Nationwide, Democrats took control, as there are now more Democrat governors and more state legislatures under Democrat control.
As for the state of Ohio, Democrats take control as Ted Strickland was elected Governor. Also, Republican incumbant Mike Dewine was unseated as U.S. Senator by Democrat Sherrod Brown.
As for the near future, two major changes will occur for the state. The state minimum wage will be raised from $5.15 to $6.85 (Issue 2) and Ohio will virtually be smoke-free (Issues 4 and 5). Bars and restaurants will no longer be allowed to choose whether or not they are smoke-free. Ohioans voted to eliminate smoking from most enclosed buildings.
As for Issue 3, Ohio kept gambling outlawed, which means Argosy and Belterra have nothing to worry about.
