The College Study Skills and Reading Center is still offering free workshops to assist students in their studying habits. There are a few more workshops being held that were not covered in the last issue. These workshops are titled “Textbooks: Breaking the Code”; “How to Survive the Classroom Experience”; “Balancing Act: Stop Dreaming, Start Planning”; and “Test Taking: Tips, Strategies, and Preparation.”
Each of these workshops is designed with students in mind and was created to help them optimize their time and learning experience.
“Textbooks: Breaking the Code” explores strategies that allow students to understand the format of college textbooks, as well as how to turn those texts into study guides.
“How to Survive the Classroom Experience” invites students to participate in activities that highlight some of the issues that occur in the classroom due to different learning preferences and teaching styles.
“Balancing Act: Stop Dreaming, Start Planning” was created with the non-traditional student in mind (but all students are welcome to attend). The goal of this workshop is to realize responsibilities of four focus areas, and to create a realistic plan to find balance. The four focus areas are college, work, money, and family.
“Test Taking: Tips, Strategies and Preparation” offers tips on test preparation as well as test anxiety. This workshop includes a test taking tip sheet and is discussion based.
