Exhibit to celebrate 10 years of eMedia Program

The RWC eMedia Department will celebrate 10 years of the program with an exhibition that will take place this coming January at the University Galleries on Sycamore. Ten years of eMedia student’s photography will hang in the Changing Exhibition Gallery from Jan. 3 to March 9. There are currently about 8,500 student photographs in the eMedia archives, and it took current students (Drew Bowen, Lauren Bowser, Brandon Farmer, Brittany Lindenschmidt, Kristen Santel), alumni (Michael Mckeown), and a staff member (Melissa Kyrlach) all summer quarter to sort through and organize the photographs. Professor Pete Bender oversaw the process, and Professor Mike Sanders is the curator of the exhibit.

About 125 to 150 photographs will hang in the gallery, and the eMedia Department is also putting together four or five slide shows that will consist of about 100 slides each to display even more student photographs, according to Sanders. The Department is also currently working on a poster to promote the exhibit and a DVD that will have all of the works from the gallery and information about each artist whose work is displayed.

All of the works in the gallery were the product of classes that were taught as a part of the eMedia program. Still Photography, Photographic Principles and Lighting, Digital Photography, Studio Photography, Pinhole and Plastic Photography were some of the classes where students produced these works.

Mike Sanders, Pete Bender, and David Hartz each taught some of these classes, and all of them collaborated on the upcoming exhibit.

The exhibit is located at 628 Sycamore Street. The opening reception will be on Jan. 5 from 5-7 p.m. and normal gallery hours are 12-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 12-4 p.m. Saturday.
