Feature student: “Because we all just want to be big rockstars

Most students at RWC have plans of being nurses, business gurus, teachers, or members of other professions commonly seen in society. But sophmore Aaron Thesing has bigger plans for his future than receiving a piece of paper that states he is good enough to get a job done. Thesing wants to make it big with his music.

“I joined a band to keep busy, plus I love music,” Aaron said. “I believe that God gave me the gift of playing and making music. So I should use it.”

Even though Aaron’s been fiddling with music for quite some time, his recent band has been together for less than a year now. “This band formed after my first band, Final Thought, ended,” he explained. “Our bass player was leaving to go to college in Utah, so I started looking for another band.”

Focusing on the new band’s music, they have yet to conjure up a band name.

“It has recently become unknown,” Aaron pauses. “We’ll have one soon though.”

The individuals making up this unnamed band are Nick Jones, Ben Fischer, Kevin Lyons, Jeff, and of course Aaron Thesing. Much like the band’s name, Jeff’s last name is also unknown.

“I don’t know Jeff’s last name,” Aaron confesses. “He just started playing with us a month ago.”

On top of Thesing having a 16-credit hour school load and a 15-hour weekly work schedule, he manages to fit in band practice. The band practices two to three times a week in their lead singer/guitar player’s recording studio.

The results of all their practicing can be seen live at “basically any bar or venue, or festive occasion,” Thesing said.

Even though Christmas is right around the corner, and a festive occasion, Thesing claims, “We usually don’t perform anything special for the holidays. But we will be in the studio a bunch this Christmas.”

Their music genre can be categorized as eclectic. “We have a variety of styles in our songs; many are Indie Folk Rock though.”

Aaron elaborates, “We have gotten comparisons to old REM, Wilco, and unfortunately Bright Eyes.”

If this is the type of music that makes your foot tap, I suggest checking out their next gig at Jefferson Hall on December 3.
