Hartz donates artwork to benefit Cincinnati youth

Professor David Hartz of the RWC eMedia Department donated his time, effort, and artwork to a good cause this past September. Professor Hartz created some unique pieces of art for the Secret Artworks Postcard Sale, an event held by the Artworks Organization to raise money for its summer program, which provides summer jobs to Cincinnati youth, so they are able to earn money and learn about art. Professor Hartz drew two pieces and sent them to Artworks after seeing an ad for artists. “It was just a call for artists in City Beat,” he said.

The program is designed so that interested artists contact the Artworks organization and then the artist receives three postcards from the organization, draws whatever he wishes on each, and sends them back.

The exhibit for the artwork that was donated began with a reception on Sept. 26. Artists, critics, and gallery owners were able to view all of the artwork before it went on sale to the public. On Sept. 27 people could pay $50 to enter the gallery and buy artwork and on the 28th people could enter the gallery for free and buy whatever artwork was left.

The sale will continue until Dec. 22. Anyone can purchase one of the pieces for $75 each at either the gallery located at 811 Race Street or the Artworks website at , but don’t expect to find out the artist of any piece that you like before you purchase it. This is a secret auction, and the artist is only revealed to the person who purchases the artwork.

“I like the idea that your name wasn’t shown,” said Hartz. “It forces the buyer to choose what they like.
