One of the big sites right now is Facebook (Facebook.com) . It is a site that allows friends and classmates to talk to each other via the Internet. For instance, I talk to my best friend, Meghann, who went to elementary and a year of middle school with me, as well as her boyfriend and classmates from grade school and high school. Actually, I talk more with most of them now, via e-mail, than I did when I went to school with them, Meghann excluded.
To access this site, you must join the site by answering questions and putting in information like your age, e-mail address and password, and schools you attended. You set up a certain amount of your profile, and later, the website sends you your confirmation e-mail.
It took mine a little while to get to me. I don’t know how long it’s supposed to take, but once you get it, with a simple input of your e-mail address and password, you’re in. From there, you can set up your profile, add pictures and audio, find friends, and ask for them to add you.
You can also write on friends’ “walls,” a feature much like a comment board for those not familiar with Facebook. The website is relatively easy to master. It helps to look at other people’s profiles until you get the hang of it. This site is more educational-based, unlike Myspace or Xanga.
I love the feature of adding pictures, because you can tag people in the pictures, and it gets added to their profile. You can also share pictures and URL’s, a neat feature.
I like writing notes and changing my status. I don’t exactly know what you’re supposed to write there, but I always put tired, going home, bored, or listening to music.
I like the fact that you can look up things you like, such as movies, bands, or TV shows and add them as your groups. I have nineteen of them.
When you have more than ten friends on Facebook, you can play the “Friend game,” which is actually a very hard and interesting. It shows you how much you have yet to learn about your friends.
Overall, I find Facebook to be a great learning opportunity and a great website to learn about your friends and make new ones, while sharing memories of school, other friends, and interests. It would be a great website to check into.
