To smoke or not to smoke? That is the question lately. Those of you who voted know that the law passed for no smoking in public places throughout Ohio. Being a non-smoker, I have mixed feelings about this. On one side, I am happy, because now I can go to public places and not have to worry about leaving there smelling horrible from all the smoke that fills the air.
Another benefit for me is that I won’t be slowly hurt down the road by second-hand smoke.
On the other hand, here is the problem that I run into. I work at Buffalo Wild Wings. It is a grill and bar, and therefore, people smoke when they are in there because we serve alcohol. A majority of the people who come in and sit at the bar do smoke. I strongly believe that this is going to hurt businesses like the one I work in. I do not want my tips from work to go down because of a smoking law, but in reality they are most likely going to.
I wish there was some other way around it. I also feel sorry for those who work in small town bars and things like that who have to have the tip income to make a living. I believe since this law has passed, serving wages should go up a significant amount for people to make money. I believe that tips may be close to cut in half. It seems to me that there are a lot of down sides to this law, but there is also definite good that comes out of it as well.
