The New York Times is now available, for a limited time, free on the RWC campus. The University Student Senate has sponsored a pilot program for six weeks offering the New York Times for free on the Uptown Campus, at College of Applied Sciences, and at Raymond Walters College. During the trial period, which started April 9, on each weekday 50 papers are delivered to Muntz Hall and placed in a temporary newsstand.
If the program is picked up after the trial period, the temporary stands and signs will be replaced with permanent ones.
Student Senate will evaluate whether bringing the program to campus after the trial period is something they should sponsor. Feedback from the students along with statistical data about how many papers are picked up will be essential to the evaluation. Student Senator Jason Waller, Vice-Chair of the public Policy Committee, hopes students let their senators know how they feel about having the paper on campus.
Waller believes having the New York Times available is “a wonderful opportunity for students to become more educated.
