New coaster at King’s Island: Who wants to fly?

The new ride at King’s Island has all fans talking. It is set to start operating Memorial Day weekend, celebrating the 35-year anniversary of the theme park. Being King’s Island’s fourteenth roller coaster, it’s astounding to think that the pre-existing thirteen have all won at least one award. This coaster, Firehawk, will cruise through five inversions at speeds of over 50 miles per hour. The seating is designed for the rider to experience the sensation of human flight. Greg Scheid, Kings Island’s Vice-President and General Manager, said, “The addition of Firehawk reflects our commitment to combining one-of-a-kind thrills with fantastic family entertainment….We’re looking for some real thrill seekers who are ready and willing to fly. What a way to celebrate our 35th anniversary!”

People who are afraid of heights should either be committed to overcoming their fright or not waste their time in line to lose their expensive lunch.

The ride lasts approximately two minutes and thirty seconds, with each passenger strapped into a pilot seat and lowered backward. Then the ascent begins up a 115-foot lift hill, then everyone is flipped over and sent screaming over a half mile of steel track.

This ride sounds like a must-experience for anyone who wants to fly, with or without a plane. In other words, this attraction, positioned behind Flight of Fear in Coney Mall, will bring together two diverse groups, people who like or would like to travel in a plane, and those of us who like comic books and cartoons and grew up wanting to be a superhero.
