To kick off celebrating National Nurses Week, the RWC Associate Degree Program of Nursing held a lecture and award ceremony on May 7. The Program gave four awards to five different students. The first award was the Academic Excellence Award, which went to Rebecca Rupp. Aside from attending RWC to receive her Associates Degree in Nursing, Rebecca also has two children, ages eight and four. Rebecca is graduating with a 3.882 GPA.
The next award, the Caring Nurse Award, went to Priscilla Greene. Priscilla has a degree in Business, but felt she “was not able to express the true me,” so she decided to go back to college and get her nursing degree. Priscilla has decided to work at Bethesda North Hospital.
Karen Coors received the Commitment to Quality Nursing Practice Award. Karen said, “After 9/11 I decided to go back to school to help make a difference.” Karen also plans to work at Bethesda North.
The last award, for Excellence in Clinical Practice, went to two students. Holly Janzen, a mother of four, ages 18, 17, 15, and 12, started her Nursing degree in 1986, but then stopped and had her children. Now after 21 years she has received her degree and plans to work at Bethesda North.
The other recipient was Betsy Kohls, who went to Miami University for two years and worked in a local pediatrics office, before she decided to go back to college and get her degree. She also now plans to work at Bethesda North.
