RWC’s 8th Annual celebration of National Poetry Month wrapped up on April 30, and, according to Professor Rhonda Pettit, who coordinated the series of events, it was another great success. You may have noticed the poems hanging on the walls in various hallways throughout Muntz or caught the Shakespeare performance earlier in the month or the poetry reading with Cincinnati poet Richard Hague, during the Poetry Cafe on April 30. There were also contests for songwriting and poetry.
In the Songwriting Contest, First Prize went to Chad Wonsik for his song “Surrendering.” Chad’s prize was a new Fender Squier electric guitar. Honorable Mentions went to David Bailey and Alexis B. Calloway.
The RWC Student Poetry Contest winner was Stephanie Anderson. Second place went to Tammy Walter, and Third Place went to Steven Hofferber. Casey Mahany, Dina Smith, Katie Coffey, and Michael Callinan earned Honorable Mentions.
The winner in the College Employee Poetry Contest was Melissa Kyrlach, who also took Second Place.
The winner of the area high school Poetry Contest was Angel Newton of Conner High School. Second Place went to Christopher Phillip Uihlein of Purcell Marian, while Kelsey Couch of Conner High School took Third Prize.
