UC Snapshot helpful for transitioning students

On April 27 RWC and Clermont Colleges participated in an event called UC Snapshot, a program to help get students who are interested in transferring to an uptown UC college better acquainted with the uptown campus. There were about 10 students from RWC and about 15 from Clermont in attendance. The day included breakfast, followed by a short video narrated by a local TV news anchor.

The students had a brief discussion and question answer period with employees from the Lifelong Learning and Transition Center, who are trained to helps students transition. Later, the Director of the Center, Dr. Russell Curley, led the group on a campus tour.

The students had lunch at Market Point, an all-you-can-eat style dining hall with a vast variety of foods, some prepared ahead, and some made to order. Then the students met up with representatives from their prospective colleges.

Two of the students wanting to transfer to A&S were able to fill out paperwork requesting a change of college. Because the admissions officer was prepared and had done all of the necessary research, she was able to offer them a place right on the spot, and they were able to also fill out the paperwork necessary to accept their admission to the college, all in the span of a few minutes.

Then, there was some general advising for A&S, and referrals were given for specific advisors to better serve the students. Overall the event was very well received by those students who attended. The Transfer and Lifelong Learning Center is planning to offer UC Snapshot again in the fall. All interested in transitioning to the UC Uptown Campus are encouraged to attend.
