Born in Pickerington, Ohio, Kristen MacDonald has been a class act since day one. With Kristen’s sense of humor, it’s extremely difficult to have a sad moment with her. After leaving the Columbus, Ohio, suburb in the Third Grade, Kristen and her family moved to Monroe, Ohio, where she became a 2002 graduate of Lakota East High School. Her years at Lakota East are what opened Kristen’s eyes to her future.
Kristen began studying Liberal Arts here at RWC last year, but after taking Psychology III with Professor Robin Lightner, she switched her major to Psychology over the summer. Kristen’s goal is to become a psychologist or counselor for adolescents and teenagers.
“The teenage years are the ones with most confusion,” Kristen said. “A lot of adulthood problems stem from the teenage years.”
Kristen has a special interested in those kids who are “introverts” in high school, those who are not as well socially adjusted to the society around them. She feels that, if we can reach out and grab those disturbed teens, we can eliminate some of the problems and issues we face with our teenage generation.
At Lakota East, Kristen wasn’t one of those “introverts” or one of the bullies who pick on the “introverts,” but yet a neutral student. She’d just stay back and observe the different situations high school brings about, thinking in her head of ways to make things better. After sitting out for a few years after graduation, Kristen realized her hunger for knowledge was overwhelming, and she couldn’t do what she really wanted to do (careerwise) without her degree.
When not working her job as a bartender at Applebees on Mason-Montgomery road, Kristen enjoys staying busy in her free time. Her favorite hobby is doing yoga and finding other ways to relieve stress. She also enjoys outdoor activities. Some of her favorites are wake boarding, hiking, and repelling.
For entertainment, Kristen enjoys attending local Band Jam shows, especially the ones at Bogarts in Clifton. Kristen also enjoys stand-up comedy. Her two favorites are the late Mitch Hedberg and Dane Cook.
Kristen is a very motivated person with a great eagerness to help others. With this attitude, Kristen makes herself one of the shining stars of RWC. Her selfless attitude and “put others first” mentality makes Kristen one of the most humble individuals in our society today.
