Gaming: Role-playing taken to new heights

When many people think about Role Playing, they instantly think Dungeons and Dragons or games such as Final Fantasy, Baldur’s gate, Nox, or any other game filled with annoying bosses, Mystic battle systems, and nearly impossible reccurring foes and final battles. As a five-year experienced writer on Rpol.net, I find the latter a statement that isn’t entirely true. The analogy I make with role playing is with the many actors and actresses in the movies and shows we watch, playing the roles of characters to tell a story on film. Plays are not excluded from that mix either. RolePlay onLine takes role-playing to an interactive level of writing.

On [Rpol.net], there is a game for every genre, from Anime to the Western type. These games can mimic real-life situations or today’s fast action flicks, shows, books, and video games. However, you don’t have to be confined to just creating continuations of copyrighted blockbuster hits. My favorite is the Sci-Fi/Sci-Fi Fantasy genre. Most of the games I play are stories I make up.

On the login screen, you can register a new nickname and email address to get started on right after clicking the “I Understand” button following the “New Users” statement. Be sure to read the RPOL’s Terms of Use before continuing! The “Chamber of Lost Souls” thread is home to a list of those unfortunate users who fail to abide by the site’s rules.

When your password is sent to you, you may begin creating your first game by clicking on the “Start your own game link” at the top of the page. When creating a game, you must fill in the required information needed for anyone to join it. This includes Game Name, Game Manager (GM) Alias, and [Game] Classification. After you are done, just click on the “Create Game” button right next to the Biography information text boxes. The site will then prompt you in going to the game you created.

On the main screen, games you play in will be shown under the game classification along with the other lists for any other games you wish to join. Next to each game is the GM’s screen name along with the number of posts in that game. If you hold the mouse over the game, a tool tip showing you the last post made appears.

You can search for a game by clicking the “Search for a Game” link next to the RPOL.net Logo in the upper left hand corner. To advertise your game, you must go to the “Player wanted” thread located in the RPOL forums and post your game’s info. You must provide your game info and ground work threads (such as Request to Join, Out of Character Thread, user defined threads, etc.) in order to post up your game for others to join.

A neat feature recently added in RPOL’s last update is rMail. This is your ordinary inside email, private between you and a designated RPOL user. It comes in handy when you don’t want the GM of a game wanting to ease drop on a conversation between you and another player.

RPOL’s exceptional format allows GMs to customize their games and navigate through them with ease. This by far is different from any other Role Playing site I have ever visited before and by far the best! So come join me here on RPOL.net! And you don’t even have to be a D&Der! Writers and Gamers alike are welcome! So come join the game I GM: “Theory of Rliur.” I’ll be waiting….ng….
