2008 study abroad deadlines loom

According to many of those who’ve done it, studying abroad is one of the most amazing, unforgettable experiences you can have as a student. You get to see the world, meet new people, experience new cultures, and earn college credit at the same time. If you’re even considering it, you should check out these summer programs offered by Raymond Walters College for 2008. If you have taken at least one year of college German courses (or equivalent), you can participate in the Ilmenau, Germany exchange program, August 1-24. Receive credit for Contemporary German Culture and Civilization and visit historical sites such as the homes of Johann Sebastian Bach and Martin Luther. With at least one year of college Spanish courses (or equivalent), you can study abroad in tropical Costa Rica. This two-week program (June 15-29) includes 40 hours of Spanish language instruction and unique cultural visits to sites such as a coffee plantation, a butterfly farm, natural springs, and a turtle hatching. The approximate $2300 cost covers airfare, transportation, cultural trips, and homestay, with two meals each day. For further information, email . The application for this program is due March 1.

If English is as far as your literary knowledge extends, there’s a program for you too! The British Study Abroad program this year focuses on the theory of evolution. You’ll stay three weeks in the countryside at Harlaxton Manor, 100 miles north of London. Courses offered include the biology/natural science course, Evolution: History and Processes, and a creative writing course titled “The Evolutionary Self.” You can take either or both.

The trip concludes with an extended weekend in London and you will also have two full weekends for travelling throughout Europe on your own. Tentative dates are June 15 – July 9, with an approximate cost of $3000, which will include airfare, room, board, ground transportation, and museum entry fees.
