A significant new development in RWC’s Electronic Media program is facilitating its students in gaining experience and the opportunity to matriculate into the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program. The Electronic Media Communications program is looking to combine two one-year certificate programs, the Broadcast Media certificate and the Media Criticism and Journalism certificate, into a transfer degree program. This would better aid RWC students in transferring into UC’s Journalism program, as well as bring more UC students here, as it will offer classes not available at the main campus.
Additionally, Program Director Michael Sanders has been meeting with the founder and director of UC’s Journalism program, John Hughes. The two are looking to establish a Regional News Bureau with two offices, one in downtown Cincinnati, and one here at Raymond Walters College. Operated by staff and students, the bureau will offer students the ability to bring their technical abilities to the world of journalism and offer a service to the community.
“We think it’s going to give our students new avenues and opportunities, and a chance to work in a new environment,” says Sanders. Look for these changes to start taking place as soon as this Spring quarter.
