In an effort to help local families offset the high cost of college, Raymond Walters College is currently accepting applications for a variety of scholarships offered through the college. About $68,000 is available, with more than 60 opportunities for awards.
While several of the scholarships at RWC are program-specific, many are open to students in any academic program. Also, the amount and requirements for the scholarships vary.
This year, several new scholarships are being offered, including: the $1,000 RWC Alumni Association Scholarship; the $500 William Baughin Liberal Arts and the $500 William Baughin Transition scholarships, both created to honor the memory of a former RWC professor; the $2,000 Anna and Joseph Etges Scholarship for a student in a science or allied health program; and the $1,200 Dr. Peter Garvin, of Cincinnati Dental Services, Scholarship earmarked to support students in the Dental Hygiene program.
In addition, RWC has initiated a new “Academic Outreach Scholarship,” which will be awarded to incoming freshman students who are ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class. This $1,500 scholarship will be awarded automatically to qualifying incoming freshman students in $500 installments each quarter of their first year as long as students maintain a 3.0 grade-point average.
In total, RWC offers 19 different scholarships, including Dean’s Full-Time, Part-time and Summer scholarships; the $2,000 Lester and Velma Freytag Scholarship; the $1,000 Theresa E. Goldfarb Scholarship; the $1,000 Robert Lewis Herrmann Scholarship; the $1,000 Robert McCants Scholarship; the $1,000 Clara and Stephen E. Olenick Scholarship; the $1,000 Radiologic Technology Spring Capstone Class of 2006 Scholarship; the RWC Evening College Scholarship; the $200 John D. and Marjorie E. Sipple Study Abroad Scholarship; the $1,000 Agnes and William Sovak Scholarship; the $700 Nancy A. Stolzenberger Scholarship; and the $2,500 Elinor L. Willet, RN/CareSpring Health Care Management Scholarship.
In addition to the college’s 19 internal scholarships, RWC also encourages students to apply for external scholarships. When appropriate, links to external scholarships are posted on the college’s website; these currently include information for the AES Engineers Scholarship; Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants Scholarship; Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation; and Patty Bertsche Memorial Woman’s Opportunity Grant -Kenwood Women’s Club.
