The Second Annual RWC Songwriting Contest has a grand prize any songwriter can use: a Zoom H2 Digital Recorder, a palm-size stereo recorder that sells for around $200. The prize has been generously donated by local music retailer Willis Music, with stores all over the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. The contest is open to all college and high school students in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Area. Applicants are free to choose to write their songs using any theme, subject, or style.
The songs, however, will be judged anonymously by RWC faculty for the quality of lyrics, music, and relationship between the two. Participants are able to submit a maximum of three songs, which can be performed by the songwriter or another group. Songs submitted must be in both recorded form (CD or Cassette tape only) and type written for the lyrics.
Submissions must also include, on a separate sheet of paper, the song’s title, the writer’s name, address, phone number, email address (if applicable), and school or university currently attended.
The deadline for submission is March 31, 2008. The winners will be announced in mid-April and will be invited to perform their work on April 28 from 7-9 p.m., as a part of the RWC Poetry Cafe. A First Prize and two Honorable Mentions will be awarded. Winning lyrics will be published in the Blue Ash Review, the college literary magazine. And, of course, the winner will get the Zoom H2.
Submission packages should be addressed to Professor Rhonda Pettit, Department of English and Communication, UC Raymond Walters College, 9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash, Ohio 45236.
