RWC’s Writing Center offers three different non-credit courses for non-native speakers of English.
The first, “English Conversation Circle” (ECC), is for students who are learning English as a Second Language (ESL) and would like to improve on how to speak English. Basic knowledge of English is recommended.
The times for these classes are Tuesdays from 1-2:20 p.m. This class will be offered Apr. 8-June 10, 2008. The other option is Wednesdays from 6-7:20 p.m., Apr. 9 – June 11, 2008. Professor Peggy Strohmaier will be teaching a series of 10 classes for the duration of this course.
The second course, “Grammar and Editing” (G&E), is for students who are learning American and English as a Second Language (ESL) and would like to learn how to be proficient in Standard American Written English, developing skills to enhance writing skills.
This class is held on Thursdays at 1-2:20 p.m. Professor Mei Ying Minnich will be teaching 10 sessions Apr. 10 – June 12, 2008.
The last course, “English Skills Tutorial” (EST), gives those who are already adept in the English language and who have English as a second language a chance to build upon what they’ve learned. In the 50-minute weekly tutorials, students will be given the opportunity to improve on English grammar, reading, writing, and/or speaking skills in a personalized tutorial with the instructor one-on-one. The course’s center is decided by the student’s desires. The instructor is the academic tutor.
All the above classes offered cost $300 for a one time only fee. The applicants are limited to seven amongst UC and non-UC students. This class runs from Mar. 31 – June 6, 2008.
