The current top grossing black jack hit “21” takes us into the world of counting cards and the people who track these people down, like Lawrence Fishbourne’s character. The movie starts off with the main character (Jim Sturgess) playing cards at a blackjack table and a shadowy figure running towards him. Then everything goes black.
The movie then takes us through Ben Campbell’s life and how he got into counting cards with a group of MIT students led by Professor Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey). Each weekend the group of students and professor would go to Las Vegas and count cards and make lots of money.
Before I saw the movie, I was trying to decide how well the movie could do compared to other card type movies. To my surprise, this movie topped the charts of all card scam type movies for several reasons.
The first reason I liked the movie is that we actually get to learn how the scam artists counted cards and played the casino, unlike some other movies, where we usually have to figure how they play the system.
The second reason why I liked this movie is that the movie kept me on my toes, since almost every scene is crucial to the development of the story and takes us deeper into the world of card counting.
The last reason why I enjoyed this flick is that it grabbed my attention right as the movie started. The movie was already an interest of mine, but once the first scene was done, it kept me in my seat expecting many different situations to occur.
This movie would be one of my top picks for casino genre movies, and it also has a great actor lineup.
