It is come to my attention that few know what Memorial Day is, let alone when it is.Memorial Day, this year May 26 or last Monday, is the last Monday of May.
There are many different stories as to the development of Memorial Day, with half as many claims to the creation thereof, but it is clear Memorial Day was originally to honor those who died in the Civil War.
After World War I, it became nationally recognized as a holiday to honor/celebrate all those who “…gave all.”
Today, Memorial Day is still reconized and celebrated, except many people have forgotten about Memorial Day.
“We don’t have class Monday.”
“Really? Why not?”
“I don’t know, something about Memorial Day or whatever.”
Not necessarily verbatim, but the concept is common in conversations everywhere I go.
So why do I write this article?
If it isn’t obvious, too many have forgotten Memorial Day, and just as many have forgotten the purpose of Memorial Day.
Memorial Day, as previously mentioned, is a day to recognize, honor, and celebrate Armed Forces Members who did not come home from a combat zone.
“All gave some, some gave all.”
And for those who don’t believe me, I found a source that verfies what I’ve said though in greater detail:
