If you are a hardworking and ambitious student then you are probably familiar with the RWC Library. If you are not familiar with the library then you should be. Recently I was fortunate enough to take a tour of the library with Michelle McKinney, a library faculty member, who highlighted some of the newest features available. A most impressive addition I found was that one of the three group study rooms has been modified to serve students’ multimedia applications. Thanks to a grant from the Ohio Board of Regents and a collaboration with the EMedia Department and Network Resources you may now reserve a study room equipped with a wall-mounted large flat-screen TV, a full computer, a DVD/VHS player, and sympodium that allows for live writing on the TV screen. Students might be interested in this if they wish to review or host a presentation. This study room may be reserved by speaking with the library staff and is available for two hours at a time. Another feature newly added in the library is a laptop checkout program for students. Three laptop computers will be available for check-out in the library for two hours and will allow free wireless internet anywhere in the library that you choose. This program starts Oct. 13 and is possible thanks to the Strategic Initiative. For faculty and Education Majors you will be interested in the library’s collaboration with the RWC Leaning and Teaching center to create a Learning and Teaching Resource Collection. This collection allows for research into education strategies and techniques and while most items remain in the library some will be available for checkout. Finally, the library has instituted a new drinks policy which allows for covered beverages to be kept anywhere except for in the computer lab area so enjoy your books with some coffee.
