College offers Q.P.R. suicide prevention program

Another feature of the RWC Student Services Office is Q.P.R, a suicide prevention program. The initials Q.P.R. stand for Question, Persuade, and Reflect. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean Pamela Lineback, this program was designed to train both employees and students to develop the skills to prevent suicide.

“The percentage of college students who seriously contemplate suicide is higher than the general population,” Lineback said. She trains others to take the direct approach of being comfortable enough to be straight forward and asking, “Are you thinking about seriously hurting yourself?”

The training also covers areas of how to persuade. This program is designed to get a student connected to the community.
