The RWC Electronic Media Communications Department kicked off the year with their Eighth Annual Student Reception and ceremony on Friday September 26. This is an event to welcome new and current students and their families. The evening began with a welcome and introduction by Professor H. Michael Sanders, Department Director. He introduced the full-time faculty, the full-time staff (some of whom are adjuncts) and adjunct instructors. Sanders directed the students to a packet of information that contained practical information about the College and department services as well as eMedia curricular information.
The orientation was followed by a panel consisting of a current eMedia students and alumni, who shared insights and tips for success and answered questions from the audience.
Next came a showing of the “Best Student Work for 2007-2008.” These students received awards and had their work shown at the College Student Award Ceremony on May 16, 2008. The work was selected by the Honors Committee of the Electronic Media Communications Department from over a hundred entries.
Also shown were the Outstanding Degree Projects of 2008 (the capstone projects required for all eMedia students who are planning to graduate at the end of the Spring Quarter). Professor Sanders then presented his Director’s Awards.
The rest of the night included door prizes, an exhibit of the 2008 degree projects, where the students had their degree projects on display, and finally a reception for the producers, alumni, and current eMedia students. The event is primarily designed as an opportunity for newcomers to meet the current students as well as faculty and get advice and make new friends.
