Professor Rose Corgan in the RWC Department of Office Information Technology has won the Ohio Business Teachers Association (OBTA) Post Secondary Award for Teacher of the Year. Professor Corgan is in her 25th year at Raymond Walters College. The award is the Distinguished Service Teacher of the Year Award and is among three other awards that are offered every year by the OBTA.
Just a little history of the organization: Irving R. Garbutt was the first President of the OBTA organization. OBTA members have just celebrated its 80th year of business education for effective living.
The OBTA members have been recognized in various categories since 1969, including awards such as the Secondary Teacher Award of Distinction, Teacher Educators, Post-Secondary Business Education Accomplishment and Business Administrator Supervisor.
OBTA’S mission is to make a positive impact in business education by providing professional development activities, research, publications, and networking opportunities.

The reviewers for the award look for evidence in the candidate’s service (in classrooms helping students, teaching skills) and support letters from either students or other colleagues. This is a nominated award with the Southwest Ohio Business Association.
This is professor Corgan’s first time receiving this award.
Though she found out about the award a few weeks ahead of time, she didn’t receive it until the Conference weekend held on September 9-10.
“I am very honored to have received this award,” she said. “I have learned a lot during this process, and I felt like my students have helped me through the way.”
She also complimented her colleagues at RWC. “I’m also very proud of my department for helping me because this has made me feel like I’m more involved with them!
