What is a “non-traditional student” and why have a special week for them? Non-traditional students usually include college students who are 24 years of age or older, returning to college or beginning for the first time, working fulltime or part-time, often a parent or caretaker for family members, and independent in financial status.
November 2-9 is designated as National Non-Traditional Student Week this year. This is a week in which this population is recognized for their hard work and successes in reaching their collegiate goals, all while meeting the challenges that characterize their identification.
These challenges often include striving to maintain a balance between caring for their families, working full-time or part-time, and going to college.
Raymond Walters College will sponsor activities during National Non-Traditional Student Week to increase awareness of this population on campus and help celebrate their ability to meet challenges and reach successes.
