Help available during tough economic times

This is a period of time when many of us feel like we are unable to meet all the expenses of living a normal life. This economic recession has many, including students, feeling like they are drowning. The Ohio Benefit Bank may be that needed lifeline. The Ohio Benefit Bank (OBB) is a program offered in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks as a viable support and access service.

Since the program’s inception in 2006, the OBB has reportedly helped more than 19,000 Ohioans claim more than $20 million in tax credits and public benefits.

You may be eligible for some benefits in the form of tax credits and other work supports and not be aware of this fact. The OBB can assist in determining what you may be eligible for and simplify the process of applying for you. If you need help in determining eligibility and applying for any of the services below, RWC has an OBB Counselor who is available to assist you:

Children’s health care insurance
Home energy assistance
Child care subsidies
Food stamps
Free tax assistance including the Earned Income Tax Credit

RWC’s trained and certified OBB Counselor is on campus on Wednesdays, at 1 p.m., in Muntz 127. Call for an appointment or stop by M127 to learn more about accessing the programs you need to be healthy and secure.
