Letter to the Editor: racism in the black community

Dear Activist:The two opinion pieces I read, “Like it or not: he’s your president” and “A historic election: I believe in change” really made me chuckle.

Both pieces brought up race. They are right. Race did play a huge part in this election. The racism only came from one side though.

I wasn’t sure why race even played a role? I mean, the guy is half white and half black. He represents both sides. To just pick one color and call him that is stupid.

If you check all the polls that were conducted, you will find that the white community voted close to 50/50 for Obama, while the black community voted close to 97% for Obama. Now that is the racism.

Who cares if most of them don’t know where Obama stands on the policies? Why should that matter, huh?

It’s true it was an historic election. America elected it’s first bi-racial president.

I get where the black community is coming from. In their mind they see Obama as black, even though, the fact is, he is mixed and was raised entirely by his white family. I get it. I see what angle they are going with this.

As sad as it may be, this may be the closest thing to a black president we will see in our lifetime. That is why the black community got so involved.

I understand the enjoyment and excitement that Obama brings. He is a great speaker. The problem is voting on personal reasons rather than what is best for the country. This election brought out the most uninformed voters in U.S. history. Like it or not, this is America and we alll have the right to vote.

I hope I am wrong and that we can elect a black president in my lifetime. As long as he is qualified. Hell, we are half way there. This election should have been about what is good for the country and not what is good for one group.
