My World: Isn’t this great?

There is nothing much to say about my life. I am just like the average college student: trying to get an education and survive all at the same time. This is my first quarter with UC. I was not sure if I would ever come here, but here I am. As I have gone through this quarter, I was reminded of a phrase that I learned watching “Sister Act II.” If you remember, Whoopi Goldberg reprises her role as a “unique nun.” In the second Sister Act, she ends up going to, I believe, San Francisco, to an inner city Catholic School.

To make a long story short, she ends up teaching the students to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams. She instills the following phrase into her students: “If you want to be somebody, if you want to go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention.”

Raymond Walters College has done that for me. It has given me a new outlook on life and has helped me to achieve my goals in getting an education. I have been in college off and on since 2000. Due to personal family issues, my own issues, it has been very hard. It sure does not help having ADHD.

Since starting here at Raymond Walters College, I have felt totally different. All my professors have taken the time to get to know me. They even know my name. Isn’t that cool?

I guess what I am trying to say is that they have been extremely helpful to me. They have gone out of their way to make sure I succeed. That has not happened pretty much since I started my college career.

I am currently in the EMT program. I hope to be finishing that here within the next year. I would also like to finish my Criminal Justice Degree, so that I can start a career in the public safety field.

Another factor that is encouraging me to finish school is my girlfriend. She is an awesome person to be with. She inspires me to be the best person that I can. Hopefully within the next year, I will be able to pop the question and spend the rest of my life with her. But I cannot do that until I can provide for my future family.

All I have to say is that the above phrase is so true. If you want to be somebody, if you want to go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention. Rarely is stuff ever handed out to you. If you want to make yourself into something that would be a benefit to your fellow man, go to school. Get your education. Start there, and the rest will follow.

There is no other better place to start than at Raymond Walters College. From Dean O’Meara on down to Campus Police and your individual professors, they are here to help and ensure your success. Make that choice. Take the first step and the rest will follow.
