New requirement considered for eMedia majors

A new program requirement is being considered for all degrees in the RWC Electronic Media Technology Department. If the change is approved, every student will be required to do a portfolio. This portfolio requirement will take place every spring and be reviewed by a panel. Each student is required to show work that’s been done in the last year and demonstrate growth of skill and professionalism.

The purpose of this is to make sure that the students don’t arrive unprepared for capstones, degree projects, and their finals. Another important thing with this new change is that it’s an excellent way to get feedback and to show improvement so that the students can meet the graduation requirements.

The eMedia staff and faculty see it as a way to help students be successful in achieving their academic goals and graduation targets, since the requirements are very demanding.

This is another way to help the students remain in the program.

Part time students will do it each year during Spring Quarter as long as they’re in the program. This will be hands-on in Professional Practice I (a required class for graduation for all eMedia students), and each student will take this class every spring until graduation.

Then, during the students’ final quarter, they will take Degree Project and Professional Practice II.

There will be a formal meeting each year during Spring Quarter when this will take place.
