Cavaliers: Ohio team of the decade?

For the last decade in the great state of Ohio, we have been deprived of competitive professional sports teams. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers are currently 31-8, with an eight game lead in the Eastern Conference’s Central division, with an astonishing 20-0 home winning streak. It seems as if the playoffs are a virtual lock for our Cleveland Cavaliers, but we are currently fourth in the NBA standings. Three other NBA teams are playing great basketball as well. The Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, and the LA Lakers all have better overall records at this point in the NBA season. Although Zydrunas Illgauskas has recently been inactive due to injury, the Cavaliers have gotten some long awaited help from power forward Anderson Varejao, a bruising Brazilian born to grab rebounds.

We all knew the acquisition of Mo Williams was going to bring a more dynamic approach to the Cavaliers team. A flashy point guard with the ability to score as well as dish the rock has the Cleveland Cavaliers skyrocketing beyond the competition. Lebron James, the chief Cavalier, is having yet another outstanding season with a league leading 27.6 points per game. Although Lebron has been an unstoppable force since entering the NBA in 2001, his team has lacked that unquestionable balance of talent and chemistry to allow his game to elevate to yet another level above the competition.

As the season continues, hopefully the heady play of newly acquired point guard Mo Williams and the complete dominance of Lebron James will continue, and these Cleveland Cavaliers can bring a world championship that’s long overdue in the state of Ohio.
