My World: I confess

A pedestal is something that is easy to come by these days, what with the Internet and television. Constantly by going to some one’s blog or some one’s Facebook or any other form of communication to mass amounts of people, we will see that person sharing his or her opinion. Whether the opinion is of the utmost importance or whether it lacks any type of imaginative thought is yet to be determined, until you allow yourself to join in on the conversation, whether it be on this particular means of communication or whether it be with people you meet on a day to day basis. Deeply thought out opinions are hard to come by.

With that being said, I have something to confess. I am a Christian. I can just see the barrage of things running through your mind at that very word. Maybe you are thinking about those who run the website Godhatesfags.com, and your stomach has instantly begun to turn and twist in the most uncomfortable of ways. Maybe you are thinking of the Christians who stand outside of abortion clinics screaming at the top of their lungs with hate filled speech. Maybe you used to attend church and the people with whom you attended weren’t as friendly as they proclaimed.

These are just the minute problems people deal with on a daily basis in regards to Christianity and those who are part of it. I have to say, yes, although it is hard I do love those people. Love is something that many Christians feel is important, but in the way that Christ truly expressed his love, many Christians find it to be too hippy-ish. Oftentimes, we Christians believe the way to love someone is to be honest. I do agree with that sentiment, but what most of us want to do is be honest with others while dismissing ourselves from the conversation.

How is this? Well, although it is often quoted, it is rarely believed (no matter what that person says, his actions show he believes this doesn’t apply to him). The Bible happens to say in Romans that “There is none righteous, no not one.”

So what those Christians pontificating their opinion as if they are the voice of God seem to forget is they too are a part of this human race. This isn’t a judgment from me, as I am guilty of this too often myself.

Oftentimes, we Christians read passages in the Bible that say things about being separate from the world, and we wish upon all that is holy that we could turn the whole United States into church going people and then block everyone else out. How many times have you heard, “We can’t allow that because this nation was founded as a Christian nation!”

Really? We were? I was under the impression that our founding fathers were trying to get away from such oppression. Things like separation of church and state are meant to protect the church, not the state in most Christians’ minds.

As long as this is going on, people are going to continue being upset with Christianity and religion. As long as I have this pedestal, I wanted to relay my opinion to you. I am sorry that Christians are self righteous bastards, and that, my friends, is coming from someone who calls himself one.
