Open mic night on Monday! “Write On Rock Out!

What is writing? Some may consider writing as essays or book reports. But RWC Professor Liz Daniels is on a mission to break this stereotypical image of writing. Daniels explained that writing isn’t just a person sitting in the dark crying and writing a poem. Writing is a form of communication. While there are so many ways to communicate, there are also many ways to write, she explains. There are many ways to express yourself through your writing: journaling, rapping, singing, playing music, song lyrics, poems and short stories just to name a few.

Writing is what you want it to be. It is uniquely you, which is how writing is so creative. Professor Daniels encourages all to reach within and put feelings and emotions on paper from the mind through the pen. To attain this goal of self exploration and celebration of personal writing, Professor Daniels has organized an “open mic night,” which she has titled, “Write On Rock Out!” to invite the Raymond Walters community to showcase hidden skills.

Professor Daniels is calling for a diversity of performers to portray every avenue of writing. So ask yourself: are you a rapper? Do you write poetry in your journal, song lyrics, or even sing? If your answer was yes to any of those questions, then the place to be on Monday January 26 from 4:30-6 p.m. is Muntz Hall Room 351.

The whole Raymond Walters community, friends and family are invited. All you have to do is sign up when you arrive, easy as that. There are no requirements except that you come ready to show what you have!

Also to be prepared for inspiration from other writers who share the same passions for expressing personal opinions of concerns, agitations, passions and even interests, for a few examples. So Professor Daniels extends the invitation for all to come and express.
