You may be aware that UC is focusing on a “one university” model-defined as one “that operates on a common academic calendar, provides leadership in advancing University System of Ohio goals and objectives for serving and graduating more students, and offers a highly focused array of affordable, accessible and streamlined degree programs of high quality.”To this end, the Collegiate Re-structuring Steering Committee (CRSC) has been created by the University Provost to develop recommendations for transformation to a one-university model. The committee will oversee, coordinate, and integrate the work of four re-structuring subcommittees, one of which will focus on streamlined collaboration between the uptown and regional campuses. By September 1, 2009, this subcommittee will:
1) Recommend an administrative and governance structure;
2) Recommend which baccalaureate programs should be offered on the branch campuses;
3) Recommend integrating the financial structures of the branches with those of the uptown campus;
4) Recommend space allocation and identify needs as a result of offering new programs;
5) Recommend any managerial or physical changes, such as libraries, information technology systems and physical plant;
6) Recommend creating or reconfiguring transfer and technical associate degree programs at the regional campuses to achieve a coherent, strategic array of offerings that are responsive to USO goals and the community’s needs
7) Recommend expanding K-12 outreach through dual-enrollment programs at regional campuses
So–what does that mean for RWC and for you? Throughout this planning stage, the students, faculty and staff of RWC will have the opportunity to provide their insight into how the restructuring might be done. Because we have a vested interest in such changes, we will be able to share our input into the subcommittee’s strategy.
In many ways, your feedback now will help chart the course for your college and university in the future. I encourage you to take full advantage of each and every opportunity to provide your comments, questions and concerns, for it is only through the sharing of such feedback that we will be able to make the restructuring the most beneficial to RWC and our students, both current and in the years to come.
