Fashion: Diamonds aren’t the only things that are forever

Accessories come and go. They get outdated, they break, you get tired of them, or you find a new favorite. But lately, there has been an emergence of a new accessory, one far more permanent. That’s right, tattoos are becoming more and more popular for people today. Diamonds aren’t the only things that last forever. Ink is showing up everywhere, especially in Hollywood. Britney, Lil Wayne, Nicole Ritchie, and even Rihanna are all sporting tattoos among their other million dollar jewels.

I feel that, in today’s world, tattoos are becoming more accepted, which may give many of us a sigh of relief. Many people still do look down on them as an act of rebellion.

I disagree whole heartedly. To many, it is an art and a way of expressing oneself. Parents cringe at the thought of their kids leaving the house and coming back with a permanent body modification. I know mine used to.

But in reality, tattoos have been around forever, dating all the way back to thousands of years ago. The practice of this art is timeless, and if you pursue it in the correct way, the results are beautiful.

Nowadays, tattoos are as diverse as the people who have them. They symbolize who the person is, where they came from, or something very special to them. I can personally say there is not a tattoo on my body that doesn’t mean something very important to me. It really gets under my skin when people look down on another person for having tattoos, just because it is not their personal preference.

Tattoos are popping up all over the fashion world and even being included on runways now. Kenneth Cole even featured tattoos in his famous “We all walk in different shoes” advertisement.

So, if you can withstand a little pain, and put a lot of thought and time into it, you could possibly discover your new favorite accessory to pair with your favorite Steve Maddens.
