The college’s walls will once again be lined with a colorful swirl of youthful exuberance-finger-painted families, charcoal fruit and papier mché faces. Hallway after hallway will be filled with paintings and photographs, sculptures and collages. For more than a decade University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College has been exhibiting the artwork of young Picassos and Rembrandts at Festival in the Woods, a celebration of the visual arts for local students.
The festival runs from February 27 to April 1 in RWC’s Muntz Hall. Hundreds of paintings, drawings, photographs and three-dimensional pieces will be exhibited by students from Deer Park City Schools, Indian Hill Schools, Loveland City Schools, Madeira Schools, Mariemont City Schools, Mt. Notre Dame High School, North College Hill City Schools, The Summit Country Day School, Sycamore Community Schools, and Taylor High School, as well as the Kinder Garden School and the RWC YMCA Childcare Center. The work of many of the schools art teachers will also be exhibited.
A public preview of the exhibit will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, February 27, in Muntz Hall on the college campus. The festival continues through March in celebration of National Youth Art Month. Each year, National Youth Art month is observed to stimulate public support for quality school art programs and to emphasize the value of art education.
