This past week, I watched something rather disturbing. I watched the documentary that Alexandra Pelosi did for HBO, entitled “Right America: Feeling Wronged.” Ms. Pelosi followed the McCain campaign the last few months before the election. I was totally shocked. The attitude that some of these people had made me ashamed to be an American. Their blatant hatred and comparing President Obama to Hitler and nicknaming him the Anti-Christ made me realize how much bigotry and hatred still exists here in the United States. In the past, I would find myself listening to Bill Cunningham on 700 WLW. I thought he had good ideas about how things should be. Then the election came. From the time that President Obama hit the campaign trail to the time he was sworn in back in February, I have narrowed my listening time to nothing.
One of the catch phrases that Bill Cunningham uses is “I am a great American.” Well, I do not agree with that. He is full of hatred towards President Obama and the Democrats. I have two things to say to him and all the other narrow minded people that have the nerve to call themselves true Americans:
(1) It takes two to tango. I think that everyone needs to realize that it was not just the Democrats or Republicans. It was our country as a whole.
(2) Could you do any better? So many people are quick to judge President Obama without even taking a second to imagine themselves in his shoes. As the leader of one of the most powerful nations on earth, President Obama is responsible for many things.
To play the devil’s advocate, I do not agree with the bailout. I think that those who were responsible for driving our economy and our financial infrastructure down the toilet should be held accountable. They are the ones who should be in the hot seat. Not President Obama. I guess what I am trying to say is that in order for our nation, our people, and our economy to bounce back from this serious recession, we need to come to the table with open minds and hearts. We need to think with our brains and not another part of our body. We need to cure ourselves of anal cranial conjunctivitis and put the future of our children and their children before our bickering. Remember what our forefathers went through to form this nation. Remember the sacrifices that were made to keep it together. Do not let these sacrifices be in vain.
Do not get me wrong. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. That is what is great about America. We can actually think for ourselves. But more times than not, that is all we think about: ourselves.
But let’s look at the big picture for while and try to grasp it.
