Collections for Food Bank help economic crisis

Has the current economic recession affected you and your family in some way? Most Americans today would answer yes to this question. Thousands have been impacted negatively, from a range of streamlining our budgets to total loss of jobs, income, and homes. The next question is, can we help make this crisis situation better in some meaningful way? The answer is yes we can. As individuals and collectively, we can make a significant impact on those among us suffering from hunger. The number of families without enough food has grown tremendously due to this crisis, according to reports from the Free Store Food Bank.

During the month of April, the College is initiating efforts for individual donations to be collected for the Free Store Food Bank through classes or offices. We will combine these contributions, collectively as a college, as one total donation to this agency. The Free Store Food Bank can then use these funds to feed literally hundreds of families through their connections with wholesale companies. Thus our individual donations can make a huge collective impact.

To make this impact happen, we are requesting two things from you. First, begin to make donations through your class or office. A collection envelope will be sent to your classroom teacher or office if you decide to participate. Contact us via the information below for the collection envelope with guidelines for submission of the funds. Anyone who donates to this cause will be issued a ticket for a free ice cream, redeemable at the RWC Bookstore, on Friday, May 1, during the Worldfest Finale.

Second, we invite you to visit the Muntz hallway by the Computer Concourse on the first floor to view the “Economic Crisis Corridor,” April 24- May 1. This display will feature captivating information on many topics regarding the economic recession, researched by RWC students in various classes. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain more insight.

We look forward to making a difference, collectively as a college!
