College reaccreditation on the line May 4-6

On May 4-6 the Higher Learning Commission’s team of consultant-evaluators will be visiting the RWC campus to determine if the College is to be reaccredited. The team will be evaluating the courses and degrees of the campus as well as learning how RWC facilitates credit transfers and financial aid for students. The visit is to ensure that RWC maintains quality to the public and to prospective students. The visit is important for the progress of the campus because the HLC is a third party evaluating the achievements of the College as well how it is handling any obstacles. At the end of the visit, the team will be providing the College with an evaluation of its overall quality.

Under the coordination of Professor Marlene Miner, who has chaired the RWC Self-Study process, over 60 students, staff, and faculty have served on eight RWC self study committees to prepare for the visit, a process that began in the 2005-2006 school year. In 2007, students faculty and staff were asked questions relevant to the five Higher Learning Commission Criteria for evaluating institutions.

The process resulted in a 200-page Self Study Report that has already been sent to the HLC team and is available for all constituents of the College to read.

There will be an open meeting on May 4 with students of the campus. The team will want students to talk about any experiences they’ve had here at RWC. Also, they may be asking what students consider to be the best and worst things of RWC. The purpose of this meeting is for the Team of Consultant-Evaluators to see what the students of RWC think of the College.

The last HLC visit to RWC in 1999 resulted in a 10-year reaccreditation, and the College expects the same result this time.
