Mitchell’s exhibit showcases unique doll house images

Professor Julie Mitchell, Head of the RWC Art and Visual Communications Department, has a number of her own works currently on display in the UC-Clermont College Art Gallery. This exhibit runs from April 9-28. The show has a series of oil paintings and digital images. The images explore themes based upon digital compositions of dolls in dollhouses. These interesting images also tell a story that encourages free interpretations from the viewers.

Professor Mitchell says the images capture a few moments from a few dramatic narratives. “I have always been drawn to films and books of suspense, many of which are set in seemingly safe homes that turn out to be anything but safe, and It is important to me that viewers enjoy the formal aspects of the images while also puzzling out a meaning to the narrative and perhaps relating it to real-life events.”

Professor Mitchell has always been interested in this type of work though she never got started until she was in grad school. “Doing something like this is fun and it allows more control,” she said.
