Movies: “I Love You, Man” explores bromance

“I Love You, Man” is the title of the movie and also a phrase that’s said a lot during the film, even during the man-on-man “kissing” scene with one of the main characters, Peter Klavin. This surely makes me think twice about this movie in parts. This was a good movie that cracked me up, beginning to end and surely makes me wonder. It begins one night when Peter and his girlfriend, Zoe, are out, and Peter shows her to a place where he wants to build houses. Peter, by the way, is a real estate agent. He rants and raves and goes on about everything, including a big wedding reception. Zoe, at this point, is clueless until he gets down on one knee and proposes.

This is when the movie begins to get good. Zoe only has about a gazillion friends to be her bridesmaids. Peter, on the other hand, hardly has friends and is having trouble finding a best man. His brother tells him that he needs to get out and go on “man dates.”

One of them includes a very old man, and another is with a gay guy. Okay, so at this point, I thought that Peter was gay, but how is that possible when he’s got a pretty fiancée?

This is something that you will need to discover on your own. Is Peter gay or is he straight? After the one date Peter gets kissed by a man named Brad. Peter finally gives up these “man dates” after that.

Things are going well for Peter at this point until he meets Sydney Fefe (pronounced feef) at one of the showings to the Ferringo house. The two of them exchange business cards and become good friends, and start spending more time together than what Peter and Zoe are, putting a strain on their relationship.

Peter is struggling a little bit in his job because his sales are down. Sydney asks him to borrow money, and after some thinking Peter gives in, but he doesn’t know what the money is being used for!

I’m not going to tell you what happens because this would be a big spoiler. This scene I have to say was one of my favorite parts, and I couldn’t stop laughing! Let’s just say that Peter is in for a big surprise in these next few days. This surprise helps him with his career, but with a little bit of embarrassment attached to it as well!

Peter lies to Zoe about the money and starts to argue about the “why do you love me” question, which leads them to break up. Peter tells Sydney they can’t be friends anymore, and he can’t be the best man in his wedding anymore.

Zoe goes to her best friend’s house for a while. But is this the end of the relationship or will they get back together? During this break between them, they both have time to think and Zoe does something that Peter doesn’t know about. They both know they’re unhappy, but sure you’d feel this way too after a fight and a breakup.

Something does happen, but at this point this is near the end of the movie. It will be a spoiler if I tell you anymore. Will Peter and Zoe get back together to say their “I do’s” and live happily ever after or are they officially broken up? I know the answer to this, but you will have to watch it yourself to find it out.

P.S. I love you, man!
