From the middle of this coming June until the beginning of fall classes, a new and supposedly improved orientation program will allow new degree seeking students to attend and schedule for classes every week. The orientation program is required for all new students, and it is recommended that the new students come as soon as possible to meet with academic advisors and to have better chances of getting into those classes that are needed.
During the program, students can learn about UC systems, such as Onestop and how to set up passwords, BOL and email accounts.
In order to attend, students will have had to complete the placement test. Registration will be blocked prior to attending the orientation.
“We feel so strongly about the value of orientation that we are blocking students’ ability to register for classes until they attend,” RWC Assistant Dean Pamela Lineback said.
The goal for the new orientation program is for new students to get acquainted with the UC systems that they need to be successful students. The goal is also for new students to get in the habit of seeing and meeting with academic advisors on a regular basis.
In September before classes start, the New Student Convocation will take place where new students will have the chance to hear from upper classmen. Seasoned students will be available to mentor and provide tips on being successful in school.
There will be a reception for students, faculty, and staff so that new students can get familiar and well acquainted with the UC family and ask any questions.
