Students encouraged to visit Writing Center

Located in the back right corner of the Muntz Hall Computer Concourse, RWC’s Writing Center is a place where all students can go. The Writing Center offers advice and help with all types of writing and works with students at any stage of the writing process. RWC Adjunct English Professor Maria Damen, who helps run the Lab, encourages all RWC students to come by and see for themselves what the Lab has to offer. The Writing Center has three academic tutors who are there to help students improve papers and become better writers. Unlike other writing centers, this one is not just a “drop-off” service; students sit down and work alongside tutors, allowing them to understand and get the most out of the time they spend there. The lab accepts walk-ins, but prefers students to set up appointments if they wish to work with a tutor. Damen also notes that as the end of the quarter approaches, they are busier and busier, so appointments are a must if you want to get in.

The Writing Lab not only offers help with writing, but also has many resources that are helpful to all students. They have reference books that students may use in the lab that help with all aspects of writing–from MLA and formatting to word use and style.

“All students can benefit by coming to the lab,” Damen states. “We have had some really great writers use our services to improve, and our center is not just for students who think they are not good writers.”

The Writing Center opens at 8 a.m. during the week and closes at 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 4 p.m. on Fridays. On Saturdays, the Lab is open, but an appointment is required. Damen adds, “We are even open during Exam Week.”

The Writing Center is open for students to make an appointment, get help, or to simply come by and check it out. For more information, visit the center or call (513) 745-5733.
