Hartz explains motion graphics and animation

Professor David Hartz, of the RWC Electronic Media Technology Department, gave an interesting lecture recently called “Motion Graphics versus Animation.” Professor Hartz explained how there is no real definition of motion graphics, and most people don’t really know how it differs from animation. He broke down each of the terms and described them. “Animation means ‘animare,’ which gives life to things to move. Motion graphics means moving and writing, but it’s a very good idea to be aware of both of them,” he said.

During the lecture Professor Hartz showed some of his own work (displayed here). The lecture was over a lunch of pizza and lasted about an hour and a half. There was a big crowd in attendance.

The lecture was sponsored by the RWC chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Artists. Professor Hartz said that he’s done many lectures before, but this was his first time doing one for the AIGA.
